Former JVP member electrocuted

A former JVP member of the Central Provincial Council Michael Ecculas De Silva (66) had been electrocuted when he trampled on a live wire laid by him to protect a cultivated land.   


He was a resident of Shanthipura area in Nuwara Eliya who had tendered nominations to contest the local governement election for Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha as leader of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya group. He had been the Principal of a government school before he took to politics. He had been living alone in the house after he separated from his wife and his son went abroad.   


Investigations revealed that the live wire which resulted in the accident had been connected direct to the main switch. Police rushed to the scene on receiving information from an employee of the farm recovered the body.   
Police said the body of the former provincial council member was recovered on Saturday evening (02).   
Nuwara Eliya Actg. Magistrate Jayamini Ambagahawatta who visited the scene and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry last morning ordered police to refer the body to the JMO Nuwara Eliya general hospital for a postmortem examination.   


Nuwara Eliya police are conducting further investigations.
