Four suspects who were in remand including two brokers, a driver and another suspect in the kidney transplant case were released on Rupees One million personal bail with two sureties, by a Colombo Magistrate yesterday.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya while releasing the four suspect on bail ordered them to appear before the Colombo Crime Division on the first and third Sundays of every month. She also asserted that one of the two sureties for each suspect should be a close relation of the suspect. Magistrate Jayasuriya also imposed a travel ban on the four suspects.
The Magistrate ordered the Officers of the Colombo Crime Division to seek the opinion of the Attorney General on conclusion of their investigation. During the case the State Counsel was assisted by SI Ratnamadulla and SI Priyantha Subasinghe of the Division. Further inquiry was postponed for March 21.
The suspects were arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division over an alleged racket of Kidney transplant in a private Hospital in Borella, The arrested suspect had promised to pay Rs.5 million to Rs.12 million for a Kidney. to six people including a woman who had donated their Kidneys between August 3 and November 3. However the Complainants had stated that they had not been given the money as promised.
