Free media doesn’t mean freedom of the wild ass: Vijitha Herath

Public Security Minister Vijitha Herath said the government  had not laid hands on media, and as a result, a lot of misinformation is  in circulation using ‘the freedom of wild ass’.   

Making remarks to the press in response to a question by a journalist, Minister Herath said this in Kadawatha on Sunday.   

“We have not laid our hands on media. That is why there  is a lot of misinformation spread using the freedom of the wild ass. If  we have laid our hands on media, it cannot be done. We ask those  concerned not to leave scope for it,” he said.  

He said the media should also act according to the law of the  country and be guided by ethics. Mr. Herath said the law would be  invoked to anyone violating the law.
