The victims of domestic gas cylinder explosions, properties and equipment damaged will be duly compensated by the government after collecting all information of the mishaps and analysing the root cause, Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said yesterday.
Once the eight member expert committee, chaired by Prof. Shantha Walpola of the University of Moratuwa appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to probe the sudden increase of domestic LPG cylinder blasts in many parts of the country releases its report in a week’s time, the government will have a clearer picture with regard to providing relief to families affected, he added.
Addressing the weekly post cabinet news briefing last morning, Minister Alagiyawanna told reporters that the two state owned and private gas companies, Litro and Laugfs consented to the remedial action plan proposed by the government to prevent further explosions of domestic gas cylinders in the country after an extensive discussion among all stakeholders to the issue on Monday.
