A stock of gold weighing seven kilos valued at Rs. 152.5 million smuggled into the country by a passenger was seized by the Police Anti Narcotics Unit of the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The suspect is a 43 year old businessman from Maradana who makes frequent trips abroad. Police said he arrived on Sunday morning from Dubai and checked out, but was arrested at the exit on suspicion. He was caught with the stock of gold in eight parcels hidden around his waist.
Investigations revealed that he had in his possession 43 gold biscuits weighing 04.400 kilos, and a stock of gold jewellery weighing 2.600 kilos.
The passenger and the stock of contraband were handed over to the Airport Customs for further action.
