In the wake of restoring air connectivity between Jaffna and Chennai, Ports and Shipping Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said he gave the green light for the connectivity of the Kankesanthurai (KKS) Port with Southern Indian ports for ferry services.

The Minister told Daily Mirror that the port located in the north of Sri Lanka would be linked with southern Indian ports such as Pondicherry and Rameswaran for connectivity.

India has offered financial assistance amounting to US $ 45 million for the development of the Kankesanthurai harbour.  Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Finance and Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) signed an agreement in this regard in January 2018. The upgradation project would make KKS Harbour a key port.
