The government has reportedly invited Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, former CEO of Dialog Axiata and a prominent figure in Sri Lanka’s telecom sector, to lead the government’s proposed digital economy.

Sources told the Daily Mirror that Dr. Wijayasuriya is yet to respond to the invitation, but will most likely accept it.

Meanwhile, Minister Vijitha Herath said at yesterday’s media briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that the government plans to establish a dedicated Digital Ministry.

He said that experts from the digital sector are being invited to contribute to the initiative.

However, he said the names of those involved will be disclosed once the process is finalized.
