Whilst  stressing that debt restructuring has become a must, with the IMF slated to decide on giving the second tranche under the International  Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Fund Facility to Sri Lanka, Samagi Jana  Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva called for a political truce among  all political parties.

“This is not a time to play politics and to capture power by giving false promises,” the MP told a media briefing.
“Debt  restructuring has become a complicated process with Parish Club, India  and Ad Hoc group of bondholders calling for restructuring plans. Sri  Lanka is facing a dangerous situation when it comes to securing the  country’s economy. Therefore, no one can play politics at this time,” he  said.

The MP said people should not get deceived by politicians  like the way they have been deceived in the past. “We have seen  politicians promising to bring down rice from the moon, you cannot give  such false promises any more,” he said.

“I personally don’t want  to play politics at a time such as this. I am more concerned about the  nation than my own political future. I don’t need to depend on politics  as I can go to the USA anytime,” he said.
