Quoting the Daily Mirror news article on “Queues are back”, SJB MP Harsha De Silva yesterday questioned the government on the shortage of red rice and selling red rice exceeding the controlled price.

MP De Silva told Parliament that the Daily Mirror has reported (on Tuesday) that a kilo of red rice is sold at Rs. 265 in Ambalantota and questioned how a kilo of red rice is sold at Rs. 265 when the controlled price is Rs. 220.

The MP challenged the government to sue the Daily Mirror if the news report is false.

“In the Southern Province, we eat red rice. The government had three months but it failed even to import red rice,” he said.
