Following successful discussions between representatives of the health sector trade unions and Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, a satisfactory solution to the grievances has been reached.

Ravi Kumudesh, convener of the Health Trade Union Alliance, has confirmed that the discussions with the Health Minister have resulted in a commitment to address their demands.

As such, the unions have decided to refrain from any form of strike action for the time being.

The coalition of health sector trade unions met Health Minister Dr. Pathirana last morning aiming to address the unions’ requests for increased allowances, with anticipation for a mutually agreeable resolution.
The union have been demanding a similar increased allowance to the Disturbance, Availability and Transport (DAT) allowance which was granted to the doctors.

This development comes after the collective of trade unions opted to suspend their planned strike on February 14th, following the Minister’s commitment to engage in discussions with them.
