“I do not make empty promises, and I will ensure that no child in this country goes hungry. My focus is on making the right decisions to advance the nation, while guaranteeing that every citizen has access to adequate daily meals,” stated Namal Rajapaksa, the Presidential candidate, during the final election rally of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) in Mathugama yesterday.

Addressing the rally he said that the SLPP is not promising to give Rs. 20,000 or Rs. 5,000 to every household, but I will take responsibility for improving the country and ensuring that people do not have to depend on politicians to meet their needs.

“Our country does not need to be westernised, but need to be modernised while respecting all cultures in the country. We used to develop the country based on clear policies and built roads with specific goals in mind. We prioritised local farmers over re-exporters, and we never made decisions that would harm the country. I assure you that I will not sell off national assets,” he said.

While we must collaborate with international organisations, we will not allow any decisions that harm our local farmers and producers. Every decision we make is for the benefit of the country and future generations, the presidential candidate said.
