IMF assistance expected within first quarter of this year: Semasinghe

Says President will make an announcement once final agreement with the IMF and debtors are reached

Sri Lanka has begun to receive positive results when it comes to IMF assistance and debt restructuring, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe informed Parliament yesterday.  

“We have begun to see positive results from the efforts taken to obtain assistance from the IMF and restructuring of debts,” the State Minister said in response to a question raised by MP Premnath C. Dolawatte.  


“President Ranil Wickremesinghe will make an announcement once final agreement with the IMF and debtors are reached,” he added.  


The State Minister said IMF assistance are expected within the first quarter of this year.  


Meanwhile the State Minister said Sri Lanka has obtained US $ 29,922 million from foreign countries, foreign agencies and banks as loans and grants from 2015 to 2022.
