Imthiaz to be appointed new SJB Chairman

• Working committee will make final decision next week

In what seemed to be a significant change in Samagi Jana  Balawegaya (SJB), the party is slated to appoint national list MP  Imthiaz Bakeer Markar as its new chairman in place of Field Marshal  Sarath Fonseka.   

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara when  contacted by Daily Mirror said party seniors are currently having  discussions to this effect. “We are currently discussing the matter at  the moment. It is obvious that we have to appoint a new chairman as  Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who held the post since 2020 is no longer  with us. Also, there is nothing new in appointing Mr. Bakeer Markar as  the chairman as we initially decided to appoint him to the post when we  were forming SJB,” Mr. Madduma Bandara said.   

“The final decision will be made by the working committee,  which is expected to meet next week. We are also planning to hold a  party convention as well,” he added.
