Inclement Weather in North

Gale force winds and heavy rain experienced in Vavuniya, Mullaithivu and Jaffna Districts from Saturday (22) had caused extensive damage to houses and property and disrupted civilan life. 

A senior official of the disaster managment units in the affected areas said several families had been displaced. 

in Vavuniya a Papaw cultivation of more than 1500 trees had been devastated by the gale force wind. Similar crop devastation had been reported from other areas as well.
Olumadu and Nedunkerni in Vavuniya, Oddusudan and Mutthiyankaddu in Mullaithivu, and Varani in Jaffna were the worst affected. However no casualties had been reported.
