An individual who used a friend’s driving licence to drive lorries all over the country for several years was arrested by Oyamaduwa Police.

The 28-year-old driver from Kurunegala had been employed by a private company dealing with veterinary drugs. Police said they arrested the suspect driver who was on his way back after delivering drugs in several areas including Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Jaffna.

He was not in possession of his national identity card to prove his identity at the time of arrest.
Under interrogation, he stated that his driving licence had expired, and he used a friend’s licence.
A senior police official said the suspect would be liable to legal action for driving a lorry without a valid driving licence and misusing another individual’s licence.

OIC Traffic K.D.S. Disanayake is conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Oyamaduwa Police IP Dimutu Gunasekara.
