Kataragama Devalaya owes Rs 600,000 for its fuel use - Southern Province Governor

• Arrears of 900,000 only Rs. 300,000 paid

Southern Province Governor Bandula Harischandra said the Kataragama Devalaya had run into arrears of 900,000 for fuel for the Devala vehicles supplied by Tissamaharama Multi-Purpose Cooperative and only Rs. 300,000 had been paid. He said a balance of Rs, 600,000 was outstanding. 

Addressing a meeting of representatives of cooperative societies in the Southern Province he said the cooperative movement was rendering a yeoman service to the people and that it would be largely instrumental in the development process under the present government.   

He pointed out that Rs. 600,000 for the supply of petrol for vehicles of the Kataragama Maha Devalaya was yet to be settled and that he will have no alternative but to send a message to the God to settle the debts.

Chancellor of the North Western University P. A, Kiriwatdeniya said the government had planned to provide employment to 300,000 families by inaugurating 10,000 projects within three years.
