Katunayake Airport Police OIC and three Officers arrested

• The sergeant on duty at the airport police responsible for the custody of the suspect at the time of the incident was remanded till March 03, while OIC and the two suspect PCs were released on bail

The OIC Katunayake International Airport Police and three other police officers had been taken into custody following investigations of the escape of a suspect wanted in connection with a series of murders who had been handed over to police by the Immigration and Emigration Officers when he attempted to leave the country were produced before Negombo magistrate.  
The sergeant on duty at the airport police responsible for the custody of the suspect at the time of the incident was remanded till March 03, while OIC and the two suspect PCs were released on bail.  

 The Immigration and Emigration officers had arrested the wanted man Korala Kankanamge Ravindu Warna Ranga (28) from Kalutara on a warrant issued by Awissawella magistrate’s court and handed over to police. He had escaped police custody when he was taken out of the cell to answer a call of nature.  

The driver of the van who transported the suspect to the airport was arrested by Kelaniya Division Crime Investigation Unit and handed over to the  Negombo police for further action on the charge of aiding and abetting the suspect to go abroad on a forged passport.  

 Negombo police are conducting further investigations on the instructions of SSP Saman Sigera.
