Keheliya hints at reduction in drug prices

The prices of medicinal drugs will be slashed by 10 to 15 percent soon, stated Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.  

He said the official announcement will be made by next week.  

“Several rounds of discussions have already commenced with the Treasury officials to finalize a decision in this regard. 

The prices will be reduced given the drop in the US dollar value,” he pointed out.  

“There was a sharp increase in the prices of medicinal drugs when the dollar value was soaring. However, it is evident that it is now decreasing. In that context, we wish to pass that benefit to the public,” the Minister stressed.
