Large crowds throng Anuradhapura on Ill Poya Day

A large number of devotees from across the country gathered at the sacred city of Anuradhapura on Ill Full Moon Poya Day (yesterday) to worship the Atamasthana, including the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

On Ill Full Moon Poya Day, the Mahamevnawa Gardens gleamed in white and was filled with fragrant scents. Many devotees observed Sil at the Atamasthana, including the Sri Maha Bodhi, from early morning. Following the instructions of the Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana, Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera, many religious ceremonies were organized.
