Local polls should not be postponed - MR

Local government elections should not be postponed, Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday.   

“Who is going to postpone the local elections? Elections are not meant to be postponed. We are of the opinion that the election should be held as scheduled,” he told journalists in Parliament.  

The former President came out with this remark as opposition MPs staged a protest inside the chamber against the anticipated postponement of local polls.
