Luxury vehicle runs over traffic cop

An SUV vehicle ran over a police traffic officer who was on duty at the Independence Avenue roundabout last evening, police said.  

The high-speeding vehicle had veered off and crashed on the pond at the roundabout, running over the policeman.  

The 25-year-old police officer was rushed to the Colombo General Hospital with serious injuries and has been admitted to the ICU for further treatment, according to hospital sources.  
The driver of the vehicle was under police custody.
