Majority of bribery complaints against officials in education sector

  • The second highest number of complaints is against Police officers, with 161 complaints

The most number of complaints on bribery has been against officials in the education sector, sources at the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption said.   
A total of 212 officials in the education sector including schools, the Education Ministry and Zonal Education officers have been involved in cases of bribery.    

The second highest number of complaints is against Police officers, with 161 complaints, sources said.   


Meanwhile the third highest number of complaints is against Land Officers and Grama Seva Niladharis. Eight such officers have been arrested following investigations.   
From January to October this year, a total of 1945 complaints have been lodged against state sector officers, out of which 26 officers have been arrested.   
The Commission said the recent economic upheaval has also seen a rise in the number of instances where bribes have been solicited.
