The third annual Commerce Day of the Maris Stella College - Thimbirigaskatuwa was held recently at the college auditorium with the participation of students from 21 leading schools in the Negombo Educational Zone.

The Guest of Honour and the keynote speaker of the event was the leading business magnate Dr. Kishu Gomes. The theme of this year’s Commerce Day ‘Moderno Creara’ - winning the modern business world with creativity and competitiveness, was well explained in his speech by Dr. Gomes.

‘Commerce Day’ stands out to be the best event which is hosted by the Commerce Society. It is a continuing event called “Maris De Facto”, which carries out many commerce events such as competitions and other entertainment programmes.

The college enrolled her first advance level batch in 2017 and presently it is the sixth consecutive batch of the A/L Commerce stream. The Commerce Union took its first step in 2018 by creating a motto with “Beyond the Destination” and appointing its first committee. The first commerce day was held in 2019 whilst the second was held in 2020.

Nine students, who had performed excellently at the G.C.E. (A/L) in the Commerce stream, were awarded with special trophies by the Guest of Honour Dr Kishu Gomes. Rev. Bro. Principal Mervyn Perera, head of the Commerce section Indika Rodrigo with the teachers and students took part at the event.
