Maussakelle Reservoir dwindling due to prevailing drought

  • Several buildings including temples and Kovils in the old Maskeliya town that had gone under the reservoir have emerged
  • The Engineers in Charge said the water level in the reservoir stood 53ft below the spill level

The Maussakelle Reservoir has been fast dwindling due to the prevailing drought in the central hills.  The Engineers in Charge said the water level in the reservoir stood 53ft below the spill level by last morning. 

The five hydropower complexes of Laxapana, New Laxapana,  Polpitiya, Canyon and Wimalasurendra are fed mainly by Maussakelle and  Castlereagh reservoirs.
