The tragic deaths of newborn twins at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital have prompted suspicions of medical negligence, as the parents question the standard of care provided by the hospital. The parents, residents of Piliyandala, rushed to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital on the 8th of this month for the delivery of their babies, scheduled for the 23rd.
Subsequently, a son and a daughter were born on the 9th, but the boy passed away on the 19th due to complications related to low birth weight. Initially, doctors claimed that the infant had died due to poisoning, but later changed their statement, attributing the death to breathing difficulties.

In another devastating turn of events, the remaining female child also died while receiving treatment in the preterm unit. Hospital staff informed the parents that the baby had died during a breastfeeding session on the morning of the 23rd.
However, the parents are seeking justice for their deceased children and hope that a thorough investigation will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Meanwhile, Kalubowila Hospital Director said the Hospital had launched an investigation into the incident as to ascertain the actual cause for the deaths.
