Ministers, MPs have made huge sacrifices by paying PAYE tax: Susil

• If the PAYE tax was not imposed, the government would not have been able to pay the salary of public sector employees

Ministers and MPs have made a huge sacrifices by paying PAYE tax at this critical juncture where Rs. 241,000 has been deducted from the salary and fuel allowances of a Minister and Rs. 90,000 from an MP, Leader of the House Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.   

He told Parliament that Ministers and MPs who live outstation, such as in Badulla, Ampara have faced difficulties to attend Parliament sessions as their fuel allowances have been subject to PAYE tax.  

“No one is talking about the sacrifices we have made,” he said.  

The Minister said if the PAYE tax was not imposed, the government would not have been able to pay the salary of public sector employees.
