Mother, two daughters drown in Quarry Lake

• Drowning claims 800 lives annually

A woman, 32, and her two daughters who went for a bath in a quarry lake in the Tissamaharama area have drowned, the police said.  

The body of the mother was found on Sunday and the bodies of her two daughters aged fourteen and nine yesterday.  Divers were used to recover them. They were residents of the Samaguliya area of Tissamaharama.

Drowning claims as many as 800 lives annually, according to Dr. Samitha Sirithunga, Head of Accident Prevention and Management in the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit of the Ministry of Health.
