Much-delayed LG polls after General Election: EC

The Election Commission yesterday (03) announced that it is geared to conduct the 2023 Local Government Election shortly after the upcoming General Election.   

In a special statement, the Commission said dates for the Local Government Election will be announced soon after the General Election concludes.    

The Commission’s announcement follows a series of legal proceedings and financial discussions regarding the allocation of funds required to conduct the elections.    The Commission also said they had held initial discussions with key stakeholders, to ensure a smooth conduct of the Local Government Election.   

“We have completed the necessary groundwork and will proceed with the Local Government Election immediately after the General Election,” the Commission reiterated.
