Mujibur Rahman resigns from Parliament to contest LG election

As the SJB mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Colombo District MP Mujibur Rahman announced his resignation from Parliament to contest the local government election as his party’s mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).

“I have decided to resign from Parliament as the working committee of my party has decided to field me as the mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council Election at this year’s local government election. I thank the 80,000 people who elected me to Parliament in 2020, my colleagues, the Speaker and Parliament staff,” he told the House.  

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana expressed best wishes to the MP on behalf of the MPs and staff in Parliament.

Former Minister and senior politician A. H. M. Fowzie, next in the SJB Colombo District list, is expected to replace Rahman.
