NPP never made allegations of hidden money in Uganda: Tilvin

• Fresh probes launched into some 400 cases, more cases will be filed within next two three weeks.   
• NPP ready to welcome any party or group willing to support NPP with genuine intentions sans any deals  
• The NPP does not expect an unlimited power like that of a 5/6th majority in Parliament deactivating the opposition

NPP member Tilvin Silva refuted making any allegation of  hidden money in Uganda, while saying that such claims were made by the  SJBers.    He told a news conference that it was the NPP which said  the so-called containers of US Dollars were printed here and taken to  Uganda.   

“We did not say any Uganda story. It was SJBers who said  that. We said those days that there could be hidden money in Uganda and  other countries. We said the alleged containers full of Dollars were  printed here and taken to Uganda. 

 Their policy is that they themselves  utter lies and say those lies were uttered by us,” he said responding to  a question.   

Silva said the Criminal Investigations Department, Bribery  Commission and the Attorney General had launched fresh probes into some  400 cases piled up in the three institutions and added that more cases  will be filed within the next two to three weeks.   

“We cannot give a definite time plan for taking action  against the wrongdoers and fraudsters. The task of filing cases is in  the hands of the Criminal Investigations Department, Bribery Commission  and the Attorney General’s Department. They have initiated fresh probes into some 400 cases piled up. Taking action against wrongdoers is not an  exhibition. Cases have to be filed in a proper manner after thorough  investigations so that criminals do not get away due to technical  defects in filing cases as in the past. Most of the criminals were  acquitted by the court due to technical defects in the cases,” he said. Responding to another question, he said the NPP was ready  to welcome any party or group who is willing to support us in forming a  strong government with genuine intentions, adding that however, the NPP  will not enter into any deal with anyone.   

“We will not give anyone anything in return for supporting us,’ he said.   

Reiterating that the NPP had not held any discussion with  the TNA on getting their support after the Presidential Election, he  said the TNA extended their support to SJB in the Presidential Election.   

He said the NPP does not expect an unlimited power like that of a 5/6th majority in Parliament deactivating the opposition.   

He said the NPP was expecting only a majority in parliament to run a government without any obstacles.   

“We do not need to exercise power like that of the 5/6th  majority deactivating the opposition. But, we need a strong majority in  parliament to run a government. The government needs to enact laws and  amend laws. We need a strong majority to run the government,” he said.
