Nanu oya accident

Investigations of the fatal accident at Radella in Nuwara Eliya on Friday (20) have revealed that the driver had lost control of the bus due to excessive speed.   

However the driver had stated to police that he lost control of the bus due to a technical defect, but the police called for a report in this regard from the Examiner of Motor Vehicles .   
The bus had crashed into a van, and a trishaw and fallen into a 50ft. deep precipice causing the death of four members of one family, a relative and the drivers of the van and the trishaw.   
The driver of the ill-fated bus Iguruge Gnanaratne (62) of Horana was produced yesterday before Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Edirisinghe and remanded till February 01.   
The magistrate visited Nuwara Eliya general hospital where the injured driver was under treatment and made the order.   

Nanu Oya police are conducting further investigation.
