Indicating that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) would introduce a new course of action to avoid crossovers during the new year, its leader and Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa over the weekend said his party would introduce a new system, where any candidate who is contesting future elections from his party would have to sign a legal document pledging that he or she would not crossover to another party after getting elected to any political institution.
Mr Premadasa came up with his new intention during a ceremony held in connection with the Sakwala program at Muslim Vidyalaya in Kalawewa.
“We will introduce a new system where all candidates contesting any election from our party will be legally bound against crossovers. It is high time we stop politicians from jumping from one political party to another. Therefore our party will establish a system where our candidates would be legally prevented from crossing over,” Mr Premadasa said.
Also he said former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is not the one who is solely responsible for the crisis in the health sector. “As you may recall it was SJB which disclosed the scams in the health sector and brought a No Confidence Motion against former health minister Rambukwella,” he said. “More than 113 MPs from the ruling party voted against it and backed Rambukwella. All those MPs who voted against the No Faith Motion are also responsible for the health scams,” he added. He requested that all school Principals together the academic staff, should prepare development plans for their schools and hand them over to his party.
“We will implement these plans once we come to office,” he said.
