No Cabinet approval to cultivate Cannabis; Minister refutes Diana’s claims

Refuting claims by State Minister Diana Gamage that Cabinet approval has been granted to cultivate Cannabis for export, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardane said yesterday no such decision has been taken to cultivate Cannabis. 

He told the weekly Cabinet briefing that no Cabinet paper has been submitted or any other decision taken in this regard.  

“She is not a Cabinet Minister. I can’t take the responsibility for a statement made by her. No Cabinet paper has been submitted to the Cabinet or any decision taken in this regard,” he said.  The State Minister had told the media that Cabinet approval has been granted to cultivate cannabis for export.
