  • There has not been any request or pressure from any quarters for the Prime Minister Gunawardena to resign

Prime minister’s office yesterday dismissed the rumors that are being circulated that there would be a change in premiership within the coming days.
“There is no truth whatsoever in the media reports that Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena would resign,” a statement issued by the prime minister’s office said.

“Furthermore there has not been any request or pressure from any quarters for the Prime Minister Gunawardena to resign. “These false reports are aimed at causing difficulties to the government plans and programmes,’ the statement signed by Prime Minister’s Media Secretary Lalith Rohana Liyanage said.

The denial comes after a report quoting MP Channa Jayasumana that a group of ruling party MPs have proposed reappointment of MP Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime minister. MP Jayasumana said this group of MPs have sought the support of the SLPP MPs who are now sitting in the opposition for this move.
