The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) said yesterday that the parties that gathered at the HRC had agreed not to impose power cuts until the end of the Advanced Level Examination.

While issuing a statement, the HRCSL said that there will be no power cuts until February 17, with effect from Monday (23).

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) had come to an agreement with the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to provide continuous fuel supply to electricity generation during the A/L examination.

The PUCSL told the CEB that covering the cost required for power generation must be identified as a priority in the proposed tariff revision. Accordingly, the two parties agreed to pay the relevant expenses incurred within 60 days.

The HRCSL also said the Power and Energy Ministry should intervene to provide coordination facilities for the agreement.   This agreement will be included as a recommendation of the HRCSL, and the PUCSL agreed to implement the recommendations.
