Northern railway line modernization begins

The work on modernization of the Maho-Omanthai stretch of the northern railway line commenced yesterday, a statement from the Department of Information said.  

India’s IRCON International company executes the project which costs Rs. 33 billion.  

Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay and Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardane attended the function to mark the launch of the project.  

The Minister said it is the biggest development project of this year.
