Former Parliamentarian Mohamed Mustapha (Myown Mustapha) was deprived of his civil rights for seven years by the Colombo High Court yesterday.
Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi pronouncing his decisions of the bribery trial before Colombo High Court against Mr. Mustapha for offering Rs. 4.2 million to National Freedom Front member Mohamed Muzammil as a means of inducing him to support 2010 presidential candidate of the opposition, Sarath Fonseka during the Presidential Election made this decision and deprived Mr. Musthapha of his civil rights.
The Judge observed that Mr. Mustapha is guilty of the charge of offering the bribe to Mr. Muzammil and also had violated certain sections of the Presidential Election Act. Judge Patabendi while depriving Mr. Mustapha of his civil rights further sentencing him for six months imprisonment with an additional fine of Rs 500.
The Attorney General had indicted former Parliamentarian Mustapha at the Colombo High Court on charges of having offered Rs.4,200,000 to National Freedom Front member Mohamed Muzammil as a means of inducing him to support the common opposition presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka during a presidential Election. Mr. Mustapha was found guilty of the charge.
