Sri Lanka could get immense help from Saudi Arabia if the government work towards the listing of Yemen–based Houthi terror outfit, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP for the Anuradhapura District Ishak Rahuman told Parliament yesterday. “Houthi terrorist group which is out to destroy the economies of nations around the globe has launched a number of attacks in Saudi Arabia. I would like to request President Ranil Wickremesinghe to take steps to talk to world leaders and get the Houthi terror group banned across the globe. Saudi Arabia would be grateful to Sri Lanka if the President carried out this task. Saudi Arabia has provided grants worth US $ 500 million up to date.
This is one-sixth of the assistance received from the IMF,” the MP said.
“Late President J. R. Jayewardene on behalf of Sri Lanka stood up for Japan after the second world war. Japan is grateful to Sri Lanka for this deed even today. Saudi Arabia will also be grateful to Sri Lanka in a similar way if Mr. Wickremesinghe works towards getting the Houthi terrorist group banned,” he added.
