Other religious dignitaries tirade Joseph Stalin over teachers’ dress code

  • Ad hoc dress codes proposed by Mr. Stalin would disrupt even co-existence among religious communities

The members of the clergy of other religions tirades General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin for asking for permission for school teachers to be clad conveniently when attending duty instead of sticking to the traditional saree as uniform.  Hindu priest  Kurukkal Ram Chandram said it was appropriate for school teachers, though people of other professional categories wear whatever suitable.

 He said such ad hoc dress codes proposed by Mr. Stalin would disrupt even co-existence among religious communities.


He said school teachers who are Hindus would dress according to cultural norms when coming to schools. Moulavi M. F. M. Farook said teachers set an example to students through their dress code in addition to imparting knowledge.  He said school teachers should not deviate from instructions given by the Education Ministry regarding their dress code. He requested Muslim teachers to follow their cultural dress code. Catholic priest Fr. Nishan Cooray said the government should be prudent enough not to change the present dress code of teachers.
