More than 7,000 Government Sector and Semi-Government  Sector Servants who had submitted nominations to contest at the Local  Government Election are in a quandary due to the uncertainty over the LG  polls, SJB MP Rajitha Senaratne said in Parliament yesterday.

He said around 7,100 Government Sector and Semi-Government  Servants have submitted nominations to contest the election, and they are  on no-pay leave.   “These people are on on-pay leave and provide them with some redress,” he said.   Government MP S.B. Dissanayake, who admitted the matter,  said similar situations have occurred in the past and added that they  had been permitted to report for duty after Cabinet Approval was  obtained.   “Cabinet can decide this matter as well. They should be permitted to report for duty,” he said.
