Perks announced for newly elected MPs

Parliamentary Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera outlined the benefits newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) will receive.

Each MP will be entitled to a monthly allowance of Rs. 54,000

A daily allowance of Rs. 2,500 for attending Parliament sessions or committee meetings on non-session days

MPs without a home within 40 kilometres of Parliament can obtain housing at the Madiwela MPs Official Residence Complex

MPs will receive annual stationery and stamps worth Rs. 100,000

For security, each MP will be provided with a pistol, though the government has yet to decide whether to extend this benefit to current MPs.

Each MP will also be given the protection of two police officers
