Civil Activist Piyath Nikeshala was yesterday granted bail after being produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court regarding the investigations over the incident of setting fire to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence in Colombo.
Civil activist Nikeshala was arrested by CID for allegedly live streaming the burning of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence on social media which took place on July 9, 2022.
Piyath Nikeshala was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs.35,000 with two sureties of Rs.500,000 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage. Meanwhile, the Court further issued an order directing the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to prevent the suspect from leaving the country.
