A man wanted for child abuse is on the run after a video of the incident sparked outrage online, Sampathnuwara Police said Tuesday.

The suspect, Bibile Chaminda, aka ‘Kukul Chaminda,’ is a resident of Welioya in Padawiya. The video shows Chaminda allegedly abusing a 4-year-old child, while having meals.

Sampathnuwara Police said they had launched an investigation after the video went viral on social media. Officers raided Chaminda’s residence but found him and the child missing.

Authorities believe the child was an adopted child and that the child’s adopted mother is now separated from her suspect husband.

Sampathnuwara Police are urging the public with any information on Chaminda’s whereabouts or the child’s safety to contact them or the nearest Police Station.
