Police open fire killing a man in Narammala

A 40 year old man was killed when police opened fire at a vehicle which went ahead defying the orders to stop the vehicle for a security checkup.   
The incident took place along the Giriulla Narammala Road late in the evening.   


The police had ordered the driver to stop but the driver had allegedly  defied the order and when the police fired at the vehicle. The dead was identified as a resident of Vathawakanda in Alawwa.   


Kurunegala DIG Sujith Wedamulla said a special inquiry will be held to determine whether the police officers had fired at the vehicle after they ordered the driver to stop the vehicle. The police officer who fired at the vehicle has been arrested.
