Police security assigned for former MPs withdrawn

• Police security personnel provided for the former Speaker, former Deputy Speaker and the Opposition Leader will remain

All police security personnel assigned to former Parliamentarians and Ministers have been recalled, police said.   
However, Senior DIG (Administration) Lalith Pathinayake told the Daily Mirror that police security personnel provided for the former Speaker, former Deputy Speaker and the Opposition Leader will remain in place.     
Police said that Parliament was dissolved by the President at midnight on 24.09.2024

Therefore, the terms of the MPs, all the ministers who represented the Parliament, Deputy Ministers, and State Ministers will be cancelled from that day. Therefore, the security provided to them by the police has been removed.
Also, according to the Act on the Protection of Victims and Witnesses, and under a court order, any person who has represented Parliament, the Provincial Council, or held the office of Governor, and has been granted special protection, will have that protection further extended.
