Election Operation Rooms will be established at all police stations and divisional police areas in preparation for the conduct of the presidential election, the Daily Mirror learns. The police officers in charge of each division and the senior DIG in the area will oversee the functioning of the operation rooms once they are set up.

These operation rooms will receive complaints related to election violence and election law violations once they are active.  Meanwhile, a police unit related to the election has been established at the Police Headquarters. This unit, which is already functioning with an OIC, is supervised by an SSP.

It has been reported that, in addition to Senior Deputy Inspector of Police (SDIG) Asanga Karavita, another DIG and a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) have been assigned to oversee duties related to the upcoming Presidential Election.

SDIG K.V.D.A.J. Karavita, who has already been appointed to oversee election-related activities, is coordinating with the Election Commission regarding the upcoming Presidential Election. A Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has been appointed for coordination in districts.   Despite the absence of an Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Election Commission, under the Constitution, is empowered to issue orders to the police once an election is declared.
