Polls Chief agrees to meet opposition MPs today

Chairman of Election Commission Nimal Punchihewa has agreed to meet opposition MPs today to discuss the local government elections, MP Dullas Alahapperuma said yesterday.   

MP Alahapperuma told Daily Mirror that Chairman of Election Commission has heeded the request made by the MPs to meet him today. “We have got positive response to our request from the elections chief,” the MP said.All opposition groups on Sunday sought a meeting with the Election Commission chairman and also requested him to conduct the local polls before March this year.   The MP also said the opposition will agitate for local polls in Parliament today.
