Poson has to be celebrated on a grand scale: Prez

• Says arrival of Arahath Mahinda has been a turning point of the country’s civilization

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed the District Secretaries of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa to make arrangements to celebrate Poson on a grand scale.   

He had told the District Secretaries to see how the government could celebrate Poson especially in Mihintale. He is of the opinion that Poson is important to Buddhists and all Sri Lankans as the arrival of Arahath Mahinda has been a turning point of the country’s civilization. Therefore, he had told the state officers that celebrating Poson is important.   

“It is important to maintain the nation’s pride at a time when the country had begun to recover from a financial crisis,” he said.   

He had also advised President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake to see that the event is commemorated successfully in other parts of the country as well.   

The President had also thanked all state officers and others who played a role in celebrating Vesak.
