Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said, for uninterrupted power supply, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) estimates a unit will cost Rs.56.90 whereas the current average cost is only Rs. 29.14. In a Twitter message, he said the deficit is Rs. 423 billion.
“There are 6,709,574 domestic consumers according to CEB billing data,” he said.
“The government has not proposed to recover past loses of CEB from a tariff revision as stated by the Public Utilities Commission. The proposal that was presented was for an automatic cost reflective tariff mechanism to be implemented to supply uninterrupted power and to recover the current cost of power supply,” he tweeted.
