A pregnant woman who had gone missing from home for several days was found in the company of her paramour on Saturday evening (13) by Govindupura police at a house in Weddgala in Kalawana.
Her husband had complained to police that she left home to attend a maternity clinic on July 09 and did not return. He told police that the following day an unidentified individual called him over the phone and demanded a ransom of Rs.5 million to release her.
A police team from Monaragala Division Crime Investigation Unit conducted investigations based on information of the area of the WhatsApp message and raided a house and arrested the 31 year old woman and her 21 year old lover. They were later handed over to the Govindupura police for further investigaions.
Investigations revealed that the woman had met her boyfriend online about five months ago and had fallen in love with him. On her request he had met her at Siyambalanduwa town and taken her to his house in Weddagala in Kalawana.
Police said that she with her lover had planned to obtain a ransom from her husband.
The suspect young man was produced before the Siyambalanduwa Magistrate S.S.Dhanushka Roshan Anuruddha and remanded till July 18 and the woman was handed over to her parents.
A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Division P.B. Premasiri including Sergeants1607 Sanath and 40871 Abeywardene had conducted investigations and traced the whereabouts of the woman and her boy friend.
